Setting the Stage for the Next 30 years!
This year, Camellia Waldorf School celebrates its 30th anniversary. From our founding in 1989 at a funky little strip mall to owning our own property along the Sacramento River, we’ve come a long way!
Yet there is still more work that needs to be done to transform our campus. For this year’s Fund-a-Need we are focusing on two areas:
- converting the front entrance into a welcoming area, and
- building a stage in the Pines area.
First, to create a more inviting first impression, we will transform the area in front of the River Building into a more open and welcoming gathering space. We will remove the metal fence around the garden and install a wooden fence along the parking lot where the large cement walkway begins. The new fence will have a wave shape with a river-flow vibe, and wood-burned Camellia flowers will decorate it.
The new fence will open up the space in front of the building, allowing a more open feel between the garden and campus, and create a safe space for children and parents to gather after school, protected from the parking lot. A new secured gate will also help improve security at the school. In the future, or if we go above our goal, we can add benches and shade umbrellas and paint concrete slab in the shape and color of a river. In addition, we hope to one day continue the redwood “wave” fence around the hedges outside of grades two, three and four.
Second, we will build an outdoor stage in the Pines area, to the left of the swing set. This will be another gathering space for our community, a beautiful place to showcase class plays, opening and closing ceremonies, graduation, assemblies, and other events. In addition, the stage will create a new play space for the yard, giving children a place for hide and seek and a place for all kinds of new imaginative play! The 24x14-foot stage will include backdrops and removable posts for shade sails. For safety, it will be less than 28” tall, with three 8” wide steps in the front.
Our goal for this year’s Fund-a-Need is $25,000. Any funds raised beyond this amount will go toward additional beautification of this area.
With your help, our 2018 Fund-a-Need allowed us to install and repair irrigation lines, hose bibs and drinking fountains, perform electrical upgrades, and remove concrete and add plantings outside of the second, third, and fourth-grade classrooms.
Join us in celebrating our 30th anniversary by supporting our 2019 Fund-a-Need to continue to transform our school. Every gift makes a difference at whatever amount is right for you.
