Education in the time of COVID - Our Story
On March 13 of 2020, our journey of education in the time of COVID began. In the early months, like many other schools, we rallied and took off with distance learning. Taking learning online within three days of closure was incredible, but we quickly realized our students needed more, they needed human connection - this motivated us to look for alternatives. What we came up with was an outdoor learning model, inspired by the outdoor education movement of the early 1900s during previous pandemics. After weeks of planning and careful review by county health, Camellia was granted an in-person waiver and we got to work. With a very small budget, we managed to install outdoor hand washing stations and constructed outdoor classroom spaces for our entire school, preschool through 8th grade. Within days, our students were back on campus and learning in-person.
As we look ahead, the time as arrived for our annual auction, Camelliapalooza. We are looking to our community, as they are able, to please consider either making a contribution or sponsoring our annual auction fundraiser to help us raise money for our school’s outdoor-in-person program and tuition assistance fund. Your support will make a huge difference to our school, helping to keep all of our students learning in-person.
This year’s auction theme is “Let Love Rule” and it will be held online, on Saturday, April 24th. Our silent auction will be live for five days, followed by a one-hour live event on Facebook Live. We have over 2500 followers and will be promoting the auction on all of our social media platforms. The deadline for auction contributions is March 31st. Camellia Waldorf School is a 501(c) (3) non-profit organization. Our tax ID number is 68-0133583.
Feel free to reach out to our auction chair, Jenny Woods, have any questions. The entire Camellia Waldorf School community thanks you in advance for your kind consideration of our request during this unusual time.
